Clueless, Careless & Criminal: New NATS Drone categories, which one are YOU?

Clueless, Careless & Criminal: New NATS Drone categories, which one are YOU?

Andy Sage, Head of Unmanned Traffic Management for the National Air Traffic Service (NATS) revelled the how they categorise drone users in the UK.

NATS Drone Categories

Andy Sage was giving oral evidence to the Science & Technology committee on drone use in the UK when he had, what can only be described as a “Gerald Rattner” moment.

” We regard drone users in the three categories. Clueless, Careless & Criminal”

Clueless, Careless & Criminal: New NATS Drone categories, which one are YOU?

The UK Drone community were left stunned by the new NATS classifications of Drone user, many taking to twitter questioning if Mr Sage was the right person to head up UTM?

Who are NATS?

NATS is a public private partnership between the Airline Group, which holds 42%, NATS staff who hold 5%, UK airport operator LHR Airports Limited with 4%, and the government which holds 49%, and a golden share.

NATS is subject to tough safety regulation from the Civil Aviation Authority which is a leader in the field of regulating air traffic services.

Clueless, Careless & Criminal, which are you?

Maybe Mr Sage & NATS would care to engage further with the 4000+ commercial PFCO & 50000+ recreational drone pilots in the UK to clarify which we group we fall in?

Worth noting that NATS is also a PFCO holder. Which group are they fall into?

NATS are also an NQE selling drone training courses.
